STEREOGUM

Sabbath Assembly - Restored To One-CD (AJNA OFFENSIVE)

This coming from the Ajna Offensive may be a bit left field but everything about this release is left field. This is a reworking and retelling of a the ideals of a group from 60/ 70's called The Process Church. If you care to read or see what they were all about here is a link to info about this group

Here is the small info on Ajna site.
The Process Church was an intensely creative, apocalyptic shadow side to the flower-powered ’60s and New Age ’70s. The influential group opened Chapters in London, Europe and across the United States. Dressing in black cloaks and walking the streets with German Shepherds, they created their own intricately designed magazines, and promoted a controversial, quasi-Gnostic theology that reconciled Christ and Satan through deeper awareness and love.

The music very much that 70's revival /church music with Organ, Horns and a very choir/Gospel feel to it. The female vocals are lush, pretty and even sensual in they way the are presented. I swear its music you would have heard in a play or musical from the late 60's/ early 70's. They music does get fuzzed out from time to time and it just makes it all the more interesting. Live if this project plays more live must be a spectacle to see. As this is more about a musical and spiritual journey of the mind they just a collections on songs to enjoy. Feral House has a book in conjecture with this release I going to seek it out and read it as the music alone has made me want to dig deeper and I'm feel it will with many of us int he underground movements . Well whats left of us.

Portal-Lurker at the Threshold-CD (Chrome Leaf )

Wtf this is a 7" only release?? These 2 songs maybe some the best blistering techinically out there Black metal I've heard in all my time. Portal sound like an army of the damned are coming to drag you to the under realms for good and there is nothing you can do about this there is a Sci fi and Jazz element to the chaos and ultra violence going on on this musical awakening. I love that I can hear elements of Cynic and Pestilence in there music well as Voivod , Burzum, Thorns , Virus and DHG all at the same time. The only damn shame about this is that it is only two fucking songs. I need more asap..

MOUTH OF THE ARCHITECT-The Violence Beneath - CD (Translation Loss)

So why this band is not much bigger then they are will always be a mystery as they mix Post Hardcore, Metal and Doom into a style that is as brilliant and powerful as Mastodon, Neurosis, Isis and Kylesa. On The Violence beneath there a waves of acoustics, prog movements, Clean and deep growls vocals, Hypnotic moments and full of crushing guitars and drums so heavy you would think the Hulk and Thor were battling on the very Earth around you. Translation Loss has some of the best bands most of you are missing now before all the great indie disappear do to the lack of caring for real music and artwork. Support Mouth of the Architect you will be floored by the talent of this band and there live presence... There is no band with more passion in there music then MOUTH OF THE ARCHITECT.....

Leng Tch'e-Hypomanic-CD (Season of Mist)

Leng Tch'e are a Grinding Grooving force of Metallic Death. There is a catchiness to all of this If you can for a minute think of what Bruth Truth mixed with Napalm Death would sound like then we are on very common ground. Leng Tch'e is off the charts with the power and marksmanship in skill of there musical craft there are even Doomy passages going on here and then they go into full on classic mid tempo death metal sounds and before you can blink they are right back to the Grinding chaos which must have taken years to get to this level. Over the last few years Europe has really become the stronghold for grooving grind music and these Belgians are the top of the current standings.. Well worth the price of admission..

THE ROYAL ARCH BLASPHEME- S/T-CD ( Hells Headbangers)

So what happened when the forces of PROFANATICA and Krieg Come together on a release. What the hell do you thing. The war for your very soul's survival has begun. The Royak Arch Blaspheme is just as it sounds. Blackend Occult Doom filled destruction. If Norweigen Black metal , Industrial Noise and Doom / Death all merged into one group then you have it here. The closest thing this I can even begin to say this sounds like is is if you mixed early Satyricon and added Ancient Wisdom and Motorhead in for good measure. There is a sickness to The Royal Arch Blaspheme that you just do not hear in 2010 its been missing scene the mid to late 90's . There is just so much pain and misery here. This sound like a drug filled ritual that has gone so very very wrong. The black forces out there will even take notice of this release. This is just a journey of the deconstruction of ones morals and hope..

Prosanctus Inferi-Pandemonic Ululations of Vesperic Palpitations- CD (Hells Headbangers)

Well well well what do we have here raw chaos filled Black Thrash that sounds like the world coming down around itself. The vocals are so demonic and maddening I feel this vocalist is in constant contact with the underworld it self. The muddy sound of drums works so well with the low fuzzed out bass and the total thrash worship of the guitarist. Just think Venom sped up 10 times and thrown into total Darkthrone worship. Prosanctus Inferi will not be an easy listen and nor should it be. You have given the world the blackened sounds of an endless nightmare simply fantastic.

Shining (NO) Interview is up 4/20/2010

http://www.shining.no/

Interview by Jørgen Munkeby

1. With Black Jazz the band as move to An Avant Post Black Metal meets Electronic Hybrid. How did this come to be?

Since our beginning as an acoustic jazz quartet in 1998, we have covered a lot of different grounds stylistically. Our first albums, released 2001 and 2003, were acoustic jazz albums. Our third album, from 2005, was more of an art-rock album also including a lot of electronic instruments, which we did not use in the beginning. Our fourth album, “Grindstone” from 2007, was a continuation of the previous album, but with added focus on the metal inspirations.

Now, on our fifth album, the metal part is much more important than before, but the free jazz attitude from our first two albums are also more important than on “Grindstone”. We have also stripped down the instrumentation to a more standard rock band instrumentation, with drums, two guitars and bass as the foundation. The focus on catchy riffs, choruses and verses, and more prominent use of vocals have made “Blackjazz” an album much more accessible.

But all these changes me have made since the start-up, are just a natural and gradual development that is slowly working all the time. It only looks like sudden revolutionary jerks of motion when you look at album releases, since there are at least two years between our releases, and actually three full years since our previous album. These changes are made because we want to make music that we ourselves find fresh and interesting. Through time, both our tastes and our knowledge of other musical styles develop, and therefore it is only natural for us to also change the music we make. Basically we only try to make the best music possible, and the result is what you hear on “Blackjazz”.

2. Your working with Indie Recording and the The End Records now are you happy with all that is being promoted on there sides so far

Yes, we are extremely happy working with Indie and The End Records! They have done an amazing job with promoting “Blackjazz”, and they’re all great guys! In just the few months since starting to work with “Blackjazz”

3.Will Shining be touring off Black Jazz in North America?

Touring in North America is definitely a high priority for us now. On our Myspace page more than 60% of all visitors are from the US, and judging by the amount of extremely good press coverage in the US we can easily say that the US are our most important and best territory.

The press’ reactions to “Blackjazz” has been amazingly good! Even two weeks before the “Blackjazz” release, Time Out New York dubbed us ”Stars of 2010”, and soon all the important media immediately followed suit and wrote amazing reviews of the album, including The New York Times, Metal Hammer, Alternative Press, Allmusic.com, Popmatters.com, Aquarius Weekly, and many others. Not to mention a great 2 page lead feature in Terrorizer in the February issue. And great reviews keeps flowing in. “Blackjazz” was the album with the absolute best average ratings in February, and quotes like "All hail Shining, the kings of new-school Prog Rock."(-411 Mania) and "One of the most assaultive, addictive albums around" (-Allmusic.com) really makes it feel like it was worth spending a whole year doing nothing else but working on the album!

So this all makes it a high priority for us to get a good tour up and running in North America. Right now we’re currently pretty busy with touring Europe. We just finishing our 4 weeks long European release tour, after touring Norway in January. During the Summer we will be doing up to 20 European festivals. But hopefully we will have time to come across the sea during the Fall! We’re very much looking forward to this.

4. Is there a running theme on Black Jazz or just collection of crazy tracks?

Recurring emotions on “Blackjazz” are aggression, confusion, frustration and a general psychotic feeling.

In the music there is a lot of recurring motifs, which comes back in different forms and variations throughout the album. For instance the main synth melody on Fisheye is also the foundation for the main synth bass lines on “Blackjazz Deathtrance”. Also the second part of the second “The Madness and the Damage Done” track is the same music as the first “Madness” track, but with a different mix and different lyrics.

The lyrics are also often repeated throughout the album, coming back in different variations. They are usually mainly made out of aggression on most songs, but on Fisheye they are more focused on a nightmarish confusion.

So you can absolutely say that the tracks are tied together by musical and lyrical motifs and ideas, although the album is not a typical conceptual album with a chronological story to follow.

5. I can hear elements on Arcturus, DHG, CODE , The Kovenant even bands like Liabach and Neubaten on " black Jazz" . Is this what the 21st century is all about mixing Music, sounds and machines all in one?

Yes, I can surely see what you mean by these references. It’s hard to say now what will be the main important thing in the music of the 21st century, but it will surely be exciting to see when we’re all old and look back. Right now, our band is only trying to make the music that we like the most ourselves. We are really happy and proud of how “Blackjazz” became, and hope that other people also might find this music interesting.

6. Do you even have issue with two Shinings the other being from Sweden? Esp that you’re both on same label now it seems

It is of course a weird situation to be in, for both bands. But both bands are doing this for the sake of trying to create the best music possible, and this is still where our focus is.

Both bands chose their names over 10 years ago, and both bands have managed to build up their own solid fanbase throughout the world. There is no rivalry between the two bands whatsoever, and I personally like what Niklas is doing very much. I hope that both bands will be able to continue to deliver great music to their fans in the future, just as they have been doing the last 11 or 12 years. After all, it’s just as simple as making sure that the press and concert venues distinguish between the bands by clearly marking them as either Norwegian or Swedish.

Both Shining bans are in fact now on the same record label, and I think this will make it easier for people to distinguish us in the future, because people are being reminded that there are two different bands with the same name. iTunes recently made a different page for each of the two Shining bands, so it seems like people are getting used to the fact that there are two active Shining bands that are both active.

And, as a matter of fact, the worst thing that could happen is that a person searching for one of the bands, unknowingly would discover another great band. And that’s just a positive and great thing, both for the bands and for the person discovering something new.

7. With Shining be releasing any Videos or DVD for this release as Black Jazz seems to fit that format perfect.

We have always wanted to release a good live recording, and with our current band and the new “Blackjazz” music we also feel it’s the perfect timing for this. Although I cannot promise anything, I can say that we’re currently thinking about different options for making a live dvd.

In regards to music videos, we have actually just recently released a music video for “The Madness and the Damage Done”, which is available on our YouTube channel page www.youtube.com/SHININGofficial. This video is made out of live shots from our release tour in Norway, cut together to fit a single edit of the audio track.

We have also uploaded a great live performance of Fisheye on National TV, which is also to be found on our YouTube channel. Both videos are also embedded on our Myspace page www.myspace.com/SHININGofficial.

8. Over the last 10 yrs the band has had many line-up changes why do you think this to be?

This is just natural for a band that is evolving and developing in a natural way. The persons in the band change as they grow older, and their tastes change along with their situation in life. This may or may not fit with what the band collectively decides to do, and this may lead to one member being less interesting than before in spending a big part of their life on the band.

If this is the case, as it has been with every change in the line-up, we all try to co-operate in the best and most flexible way as possible, and we usually spend quite a lot of time still playing together while searching for a fitting person to fill the gap. It is always hard to change out members in the band, but after more than 10 years with this band I now see that the band always has gotten better after such changes, so I guess it’s all for the good.

9. What is a live show like with Shining I'm sure it has changed greatly over the last few years?

We have always been a band that has had a strong focus on performing the music well in a live concert situation. All the members of the band are professional musicians that have spent their entire life practicing, and we really enjoy playing concerts! We feel that albums and concerts are two different things, and that both should be top priority, in their own unique ways. A concert should not be a lame and sloppy presentation of the album, and an album shouldn’t be made just to have an excuse to book gigs. The concert should be a super energic and precise show that is to stand on it’s own strong feet.

Our concerts are usually full force from beginning to end! We actually find it easier to express the right kind of energy live than on records. The band members in SHINING are so extremely good playing their instruments, so getting this energy across in a live situation is just fun. The volume in the halls, and the sweat and physical efforts are also easy for the audience to experience.

10 You worked with Rune Grammofon label for yrs just wondering if there was a reason for the move?

As the music changes, it is also very natural that there might be need for changing the record label. We were very happy with our years on Rune Grammofon, but felt that the new music called for a change of label. The music is much harder than before, but also much for immediate and has a big potential for a much bigger and wider audience than before. Since our band has now gotten a quite extensive fanbase around the world, we are very happy to know that our new label, Indie Recordings, are able to push our album on a much larger scale than before. They are also extremely great guys to work with, and love our music, so we’re very happy with the way things work now.

11. As Black Jazz was such a change in sound where do you see Shining for the next release? Similar or yet another twist and turn?

It’s very hard to know what our next album will be like. It might be drastically different, or it might be just a further extension of “Blackjazz”. We’re currently way too busy with touring to think about our next album, so we have no idea about this ourselves. All I know is that I’m very much looking forward to working on a new album again.

12. Do the members of Shining work in other projects right now or is this the only focus for the members?

All the members of SHINING are professional musicians, and we all work with other projects also. I personally unfortunately have not had much time for other people’s projects in the last one and a half year, due to “Blackjazz” taking up my full attention, but I really like working with other projects from time to time!

But as SHINING has grown and become bigger and bigger, so has the amount of time spent on the band by all members. Since the release in late January, we have toured six full weeks, and have scheduled at least another four weeks of touring, along with 20 festivals in the Summer, so SHINING is clearly the main priority of all members this year.

13. Your Website is very impressive tell us a bit about it and how it came to be.

ThThanks! Both our websites, www.shining.no and www.myspace.com/SHININGofficial, are based on the amazing album artwork made by the eminent Trine + Kim Design Studio, but redesigned for the internet by two different web designers.

I think that Trine + Kim have come up with the absolute perfect cover for “Blackjazz” and I’m extremely thankful for this. The album cover is always very important for me, and it is usually very hard trying to co-operate with designers to make the perfect album artwork for music that you’ve spent your every waking and sleeping hour on for a whole year. But with Trine + Kim the results were just amazing!

14. Thank you for your time any closing thoughts here

Thank you for taking the time to speak with us about “Blackjazz”!

Before we end, I would love to bring the attention to the wonderful producer and engineer Sean Beavan (NIN, Marilyn Manson, Slayer etc.). I’m extremely happy that he decided to join in on the Blackjazz mission. His work with NIN, Martilyn Manson and Slayer is just amazing, and because of his work with pop artists as No Doubt and Depeche Mode, I knew that he was the right guy for Blackjazz.

He didn't just prove to be the right guy, he was actually the PERFECT guy! His sheer talent is impeccable: His knowledge of musical and techical theory, his understanding and sensibility for emotions in music, and his ability to reflect and discuss these things in words - all of this makes him the very best guy I have ever worked with! He is also full of great ideas on mixing, and really put his mark on the album. On top of this, he's a wonderful person be with, and his family is super nice!

Needless to say, Sean contributed extremely much to Blackjazz, and I'm very happy that he would want to join in on the Blackjazz team. I wouldn't want to think about how the album would have been without him.

The Vision Bleak Interview 4/19/2010

My Photos | The Vision Bleak

The Vision Bleak
Interview by Markus

http://www.the-vision-bleak.de/

1. Being this is the 4th release from the Project how have you see the Band Change and grow over the course of the 4 albums?

I think we pretty much evolved from album to album still keeping the bands identity. The debut was our most catchy, most „rock“ record, on „Carpathia“ we brought in more orchestral colours and theatrical elements, „The Wolves...“ was our most „Metal“ record with lots of thrashy riffs and very guitar based in general. I think „Set Sail To Mystery“ is pretty much a mix of all albums but focuses more on atmosphere and mood than ever before.

2. Your Working with Prophecy Productions yet again . The label seem very supportive to you. There is even North American promotion this time out. Has Prophecy gotten you and the project to where you would hope to be by this 4th title??

Yes, I think so. We are a pretty popular band in Germany with pretty high Chart entries and cover stories in big magazines – we hope we can achieve a similiar status soon all over the world!

3. What is a live show like for The Vision Bleak is it very different in sound and tempo from your proper releases?

We are a very good live band I think – precise and full of energy and we really try to capture the atmosphere of the albums as well. We are always trying to capture the records sound on stage as well.

4. To create an album esp a epic as " Set Sail to Mystery" is its a long process . How is it done being just a duo.. There must be a lot of layering going on?

We always worked as a duo so the song writing process is sort of normal for us and I think it is easier than working with a 4-5 members. Initial ideas and concepts are not getting watered down due to senseless discussions. You know, we pretty much have similiar tastes and opinions when it comes to music and lyrics and thus we work very good together.

5. The Vision Bleak seem to cross the line between Goth , Black Metal and Prog Rock. Were do you see the strongest fan base as the Gothic crowds seem to be very picky and purest at times...

You are right, we have fans in many different genres which I view as a very good and fruitful thing. I think its like 60% Metal people and 40% Gothics but that's just a very wild guess from my side. I personally don't care what somebody is listening to who's buying our records or is attending our shows as long as he enjoys and embraces what we are doing.

6. Like many these days you have made Myspace you main home. Does The Vision Bleak feel this is the best promotional tool on there internet for bands??

For a long time we didn't want to have a myspace site and wanted to differ in that respect from the majority of other bands. Eventually we changed our minds. Personally I think I am little too old for the myspace concept. My friends are real and I can talk to them and look into their eyes whilst doing that – however it's a good promotional tool and it's the thing for the kids these days. So, here you go...

7.With this in mind whats your thoughts on digital media and CD sales really dropping. Are you fans of the new media outlets for sales are do you think bands need to Tour and Sell Merch to really make it a full time career?

I have been a professional in this business for about 15 years and have witnessed the decline of record sales first hand. It's a pity that it is like it is, but you can't turn back the wheel of time and thus we have to live with it. However, we are still able to earn money with what we do and even though it's more effort involved than in the „golden 90s“ it still works if you bring the fans really special releases with special, well-though out concepts, graphics and music.

8. You worked with Napalm on the last release as well is there a reason for Just Prophecy this time?

I really don't know nor care too much about this. As long as the promotion is working for us and I can talk to magazines like yours which support us and help spread our name in the USA I think it's perfectly fine to me.

9. I know the members of The Vision Bleak have worked or are working with many different projects. Do you see this as you Main focus or just one of many styles you like to work with?

The Vision Bleak is our main focus right now. No doubt. I will however work on one or the other musical project this year but can't tell too much right now.

10. Your a very Visual project why has there not been a proper DVD release yet?

We rather focused on music for now. But I am sure there will be a DVD in the not too distant future. But we have to come up with a very special and unique concept first. I am pretty bored of „let's film a live show and some drinking in the tourbus“ sort of DVDs.

11. The Vision Bleak like to Mix Horror, Viking and Pirate elements into a very Gothic story telling. Can you keep up with this in future tales or will the story lines or sound be changing?

Though I don't know where you find pirate or viking elements in TVB we are a concept band. We will always stick with the term „Horror Metal“ and our lyrics and music will always focus on horror and the supernatural. The X-Files made 9 excellentseasons as well, so why shouldn't we come up with at least 9 albums, eh?

12. What do the members of The Vision Bleak listen to for enjoyment these days??

Right now I am pretty much into the new Alice In Chains record! Brilliant one! Some of our faves are Dead Can Dance, Metallica, Opeth, Masters Of Reality, Behemoth, Landberk, Darkthrone and many more I forgot right now. But you see – we listen to a very diverse selection of music.

13.Will there be any North American Shows in 2010?

I am afraid no – but I really hope we make it over the pond one of these days.

14. Thank you for the time any closing thoughts here.

Thank you for the interest and the support!

New Reviews 4/17/2010 Short and Sweet this time out.

Stigma -concerto for the dead-CD (Pivotal Rockordings)

So you like your Death metal melodic, technical, grinding and metalcore to the bone then guess what I have for you a band called Stigma. With 3 simple bands you can say what this band sounds like Kill Switch Engage, Inflames and Impaled... If you like the idea's of those bands mixing in to one sound of ultra chaos and madness there you have your desert island disc my friends.. There are musical and vocal acrobatic's going on here. I would not be shocked to see these Gore/Horror fiends do kick flips and wearing matching jumpsuits while performing live. Stigma is not all that original by any means but this has nothing to do with being good and you know what Stigma has won me over with this very manic journey..

Watain- Lawless Darkness-CD (Season of Mist)

I saw Watain about a yr and 1/2 again in North Carolina while living there and I will tell you they put on one of the best shows for Black metal I have ever seen pure power and occult visions going on with this Swedish unit. There is a Sorrow, melody and aggression going on all at the same time with Watain and with Lawless Darkness this band has taken themselves to the next level in the Black metal pantheon. The vocals are biting in each and ever word that is spoken. The guitars and bass are just so cold and unforgiving and just when you think they have taken you to were you can no longer go they band will twist and turn and add the melody you need to go on. The production on this is second to none. The Drumming is done by a warrior that can blast and play to the music not over in the some 30 second change of tempo. Watain just one of those bands that change take you soul to the darkness and back in just 3 mins or keep your there for 20 mins it makes no difference to them. I just hope to get the honor and pleasure of seeing this Black metal force live not in Arizona on this release. Watain thank you again as this is Black Metal !!!

Cerebral Effusion-Impulsive Psychopathic Act-CD (Comatose Music)

The title of this CD is going to be longer then the review I sorry to say. I just don't get the Burp Metal scene and never will. The drums are always to tinny for for and it always seems to be an endless act of guitar noodling in bands like this . I love Bloodsoaked on this label and a few others but as a whole this is just more of the same and not for me at all.

Releases | In Death I Become -

In Death I Become- Black Wings, Grey Skies-CD (Scattered to the Wind Productions)

This is very bombastic and thrashing in nature. In Death I Become do have a Death metal over tone but they root themselves much more in the extreme heavy thrash side of music that came out of Germany think Sodom and Kreator with Death metal vocals as this is really what I'm hearing. The production is very raw and very bassy but it works for the ultra heavy sound they are trying to creature. I reminds me a lot of the band Deceased mix with elements of the Mid period Marduk when they were not so blistering. Also I maybe crazy but I could swear to the Gods above that In Death I Become has a strong love for early Motley Crue and Metallica in the way the guitars are set and sound. Then at other times the become this guttural death/black force. I'm not sure where they really want to sound . If you want a good sonic ass kick look no further...

The Breathing Process Interview is up

by

Jordan Milner (Guitar/Vocals)

1. The Breathing Process is very new to myself and most of my readers... Tell us about the band and how it came to be?
We started playing as a local band in 2003, but didn't really start taking it seriously until 2006 when we started playing more serious shows. We've basically set out to create the heaviest music we could muster. Then over the years our influences changed and evolved, so we started incorporating some more symphonic elements and really started to explore more ambient music. That is how we got the sound we have today.

2. There is a strong mix of Symphonic Black metal and what I would call the Deathcore sound. Are you fans of bands like Dimmu Borgir and Kill Switch Engage which I hear in your mix of style very much....

We are big fans of both actually. KSE is from our area so we kinda came up listening to them in the local scene and such. Dimmu we are huge fans of, they are one of our main influences.

3. Your working With Seige of Amida how did that come about they seem more a grind/ death label ???

While we were recording "In Waking" they approached us on myspace after hearing about us from one of the guys in The Acacia Strain apparently. We sent some tracks back and forth and we made a deal. They do have a wide variety of bands, but we love that they let us make whatever music we want and don't try to push us in a direction we don't want to go in. They just kinda let us be free.

4. What is a live show for the The Breathing Process like??

Bloody, Electric, Terrifying

5. Will there be any videos or DVD for The Breathing Process?

We will be shooting a video for a track on Odyssey, we haven't decided which one, we'll be filming that in June. And we will be collecting a bunch of DVD footage from this album campaign for a future DVD

6. I read you have had many lineup changes did the earlier lineups sound very different from where you sound now?

We sound much different than our stuff prior to "In waking". Some of that had to do with previous line ups, but what most people don't understand about us is that most of what a lot of sites have listed as "members" weren't official members of the band. They had nothing to do with writing or recording, they were just kinda live fill ins. However the lineup we had on In Waking and our current line up contribute a lot with the writing and stuff.

7. Whats your feeling on myspace, facebook and other digital promotional tool. Do you feel to many projects not full time bands get exposure too early and don't have time to truly grow???

I think that is is the best way i've ever heard anyone put it haha. I absolutely believe "myspace" buzz bands are a joke. Sure with some studio magic they sound great, but, you go to see them live and they look and sound like a bunch of high school kids that came out of the crowd and stepped on stage and sound like they just learned how to play their instruments a week prior. And it's really discouraging to a band like us that really puts our heart and soul into perfecting our craft when you have a bunch of 16 year olds playing huge festival tours and breaking up in the middle of them because they don't know how to handle life on the road. It sickens me. However i do believe that Myspace and Facebook ect. are essential to promotion now a days. We started touring before all this was around, it was much harder to get shows and get noticed. It's much easier now with all of this.

8. Is there a theme or story line on Odyssey (un)Dead CD??

Odyssey (Un)dead is a story about a man battling down the path of eventual exile. Through the harshest environments in our world he faces different challenges that he must conquer before he can advance. The challenges are of the environments themselves, Glaciers, Deserts, Great Plains, Swamps, Forests, Oceans each environment tries to take him under. What happens is, each environment represents a different emotion or inner demon, as he comes to terms with himself he gains strength. Some are more difficult than others, In the end, he ends up on a cliff over a great black ocean. Thats as far as i can go until you read it.

It's also partly inspired by my readings into "Bardo Thodol" or "The Tibetan Book of the Dead" It was strange how that came about. I (Jordan) had been reading it for awhile as I like to study all worldly religions. That book talks about the journey you take after death, but before "Nirvana" it explains strange places and creatures that you encounter, and how to advance past them. Eventually you realize that it is referring to corners of the mind and things that you actually face while you're alive

We wanted to show how we understand nature in all of it's power and beauty as well as show our understanding of our own minds and to challenge people to truly explore themselves. To us, self understanding is the greatest journey one can take.

9. What is the metal scene like these day in New England in 2010? I know the Metal and Hardcore fest was a big deal when I lived in RI from1999-2003.

It's definitely not what it used to be haha. But it's not so bad, We still have New England Metal Fest which is one of the premiere fests in the country. We don't play here much anymore due to lack of venues, but Connecticut, Where we're from is starting to pick back up as of late..

10. Do the members of The Breathing process work in other bands and projects of is this the main focus for all members?

The Breathing Process is the main focus of all us, however we all have solo musical outlets so to speak. Jared has an industrial project. Sara writes solo material under the name "The Griever", and I (Jordan) write a lot of experimental rock music under the moniker "The Machina Cradle". We just all write too much music to ever use in our band haha, so it helps us vent other emotions.

11. If you were ask to explain the band sound to someone who has never heard you how would you do so?

Blackened Ambient Death Metal
